How to measure the magnetic force of a Magnetic Button

Using a Gaussmeter

A Gaussmeter is a practical tool for measuring the magnetic force of a magnetic button. Place the probe of the Gaussmeter close to the magnetic surface of the button. Make sure the probe is perpendicular to the magnetic field for the most accurate reading. The Gaussmeter will display the magnetic flux density in units such as Gauss or Tesla. For example, if you have a strong magnetic button, it might have a magnetic flux density of several hundred Gauss.

Comparative Method

You can also use a comparative method to estimate the magnetic force. Use a known magnetic object with a labeled magnetic strength. Place the magnetic button and the known magnetic object close to a small metal object like a paperclip. Observe which magnet can attract the paperclip from a greater distance. If the magnetic button can attract the paperclip from a farther distance than the known magnetic object, it has a stronger magnetic force.

Force - Distance Measurement

Another way is to measure the force exerted by the magnetic button at a certain distance. Use a spring scale to attach a small metal piece. Slowly move the metal piece closer to the magnetic button until it starts to be attracted. Record the distance and the force shown on the spring scale at the moment of attraction. By changing the distance and repeating the measurement, you can get an idea of how the magnetic force changes with distance and also quantify its strength at different points.
