Origin Of Buttons

In the history of clothing development in China, buttons appeared very early. In the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907), buttons were widely used, generally three pairs, which was the beginning of the use of buttons in clothing. After the Tang Dynasty, there were more buttons. In the Ming Dynasty, women mainly used metal buttons. After the Qing Dynasty, buttons became the most important tie on clothes.

Why are men on the right and women on the left?

Because modern clothing is based on Western clothing. Westerners generally wear shirts and suits with buttons on the right, which is in line with people's posture habit of button up.

However, a long time ago, in the west, ladies generally did not button their own buttons, and the maid who waited on the lady usually button the buttons. In order to make it convenient for the maid to button the buttons, the buttons of women's clothing are opposite to those of men.
